Summary: Etrade does not let you buy Bitcoin and Crypto directly through their platform, because they do not have digital asset wallets.

You will need to join a licensed cryptocurrency exchange in the US like eToro if you want to trade Crypto, Stocks, ETFs and Commodities all in one platform.

Can I buy Crypto on Etrade?

If you are a trader or investor in the United States looking to buy crypto using your Etrade account, you are out of luck. Unfortunately, the Etrade App does not offer any native support for users to trade Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Dogecoin or any other cryptocurrencies.

The only way to get exposure to cryptocurrencies with the Etrade app is to invest in crypto orientated companies that are publicly listed on the stock market. Relevant stocks would include:

  • Coinbase (COIN)
  • MicroStrategy (MSTR)
  • ARK¬†Invest - Innovation EF¬†(ARKK)
  • Robinhood (HOOD)

Will Etrade offer Cryptocurrency Buying?

As at time of writing, Etrade has expressed no future plans to offer any cryptocurrency trading services on their platforms. Generally speaking, we recommend using specialist digital asset trading platforms for lower fees and an overall better user experience.

Stock trading platforms that add cryptocurrency services are typically more expensive and provide significantly worse services than proper crypto platforms like eToro or Coinbase.

Etrade Trading Fees

If you are interested in trading crypto stocks like Coinbase, PayPal or Microstrategy, eTrade charges no fees. For investors looking to trade futures contracts, there is a charge of $1.50 per trade.

Do keep in mind that Etrade charges a stealth fee in the 'Spread' which is the price difference between the buy price and sell price. This equates to roughly a 1.5% fee per trade.

How to buy Crypto without Etrade

We recommend using a trusted cryptocurrency exchange that will let you withdraw your Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin and other assets into cold storage. In our view, eToro is the best and safest in the United States.

If you sign up with this link, you will get $10 free when you buy your first $100 of cryptocurrencies with eToro.

Can I buy Dogecoin on Etrade?

Etrade users cannot buy Dogecoin on the platform as at time of writing. Instead, investors will need to leverage a multi-coin cryptocurrency exchange like eToro to buy DOGE.
