Can I add Solana to my Metamask Wallet?
Metamask Wallets only support blockchains that are written in the Solidity programming language, which is the basis of the Ethereum Virtual machine. This means Metamask does not support Solana, which has Rust as its native programming language.
Metamask Wallets do support EVM compatible networks like Avalanche (AVAX), Fantom (FTM), Binance (BSC) and others. Solana will soon release an EVM compatible update through Neon Labs, who are working on deploying SOL to the Ethereum Virtual machine.

Will Metamask add Solana Wallets?
Metamask is owned & operated by the Ethereum Consensys team and they have not announced any plans to support non-Ethereum compatible networks like Solana. You will have to wait until Neon Labs releases an EVM-compatible version of Solana that Metamask will be able to add to their wallet.
How to get a Solana (SOL) Wallet for DeFi and NFTs
If you want to bridge to the Solana network to use the ecosystems native DeFi, GameFi and NFT Apps - you will need to download Phantom Wallet. The user experience for the Phantom Wallet is identical to Metamask, except it is connected to SOL applications.
Phantom is completely free and they make it easy to send and receive tokens, as well as transact for low fees in DeFi. The Phantom Solana wallet also has an in-build NFT wallet that will hold any assets you buy from Solana NFT Marketplaces.

Are Solana Wallets safer than Metamask?
Solana Wallets are just as safe and trusted as Metamask. The team behind Phantom has been in operation for years and is backed by the largest institutional investors including Coinbase Ventures, Jump Crypto and many others. They have suffered no exploits or data breaches in their 3 years of operation.
Final Thoughts
Solana is a fast-growing blockchain with a thriving DeFi and NFT ecosystem. Unfortunately, you cannot add SOL to Metamask Web 3 wallets as it is not an Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible network. Instead, you will have to use a Solana native wallet like Phantom or Sollet. Both of these solutions offer great user experiences and are backed by leading institutional investors.
As Solana continues to grow and develop, we may see Metamask add support for the network in the future. Until then - you will have to use a native wallet to access all of Solana's features.
